SUSTAINABLE CONSTUCTION,

HEALTHY LIVING

A core element of our company culture!

In recent years, aspects such as sustainability, environmental awareness, and healthy building practices have gained increasing importance, requiring a more harmonious approach and visible alignment with nature within the construction industry.

For the PCI Group, these factors have played a crucial role since the company's founding, alongside forward-thinking and sustainable corporate management, as well as responsible handling of employees, the market, and society. Sustainable and careful use of our environment and resources, along with the resulting environmental and health protection, are top priorities for the PCI Group.

Since May 2023, the PCI Group, with its brands PCI and THOMSIT, has been part of Sika. Sustainability is of immense importance across the entire Sika Group, just as it is for PCI, and is a guiding principle of our daily actions. As part of the ongoing integration, we are consolidating our efforts, including those related to sustainability.

Our Path to Net Zero

Sika is convinced that companies play a crucial role in minimizing the potential future impacts of climate change on our planet. In transforming the construction and manufacturing industries towards net-zero emissions, Sika aims to take a leadership role. That’s why Sika supports the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) and is part of the growing group of leading companies whose emissions reduction targets align with the goals of the Paris Agreement. As a result, Sika has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Net Zero means that emissions must be significantly reduced through various measures, rather than offset by purchasing carbon credits. The emissions reduction targets for Scopes 1, 2, and 3 set by Sika were validated by the SBTi in May 2024.

Resources and Recyling

From the ideation phase through to the manufacturing of our products and packaging, the PCI Group focuses on resource conservation and recycling, following the Responsible Care® management system and its own defined sustainability criteria: no exploitation of resources, non-hazardous, non-toxic, easy to dispose of, no dangerous emissions or leachates, and recyclable. Around 5% of the materials used are made from recycled or renewable resources, and approximately 55% come from mineral raw materials.

The PCI Group also relies on sustainable solutions for packaging its products. The paper used for the paper sacks is made from 100% renewable raw materials sourced from sustainably managed forests. In addition, around 200 tons of PCI plastic packaging are made from 100% recycled materials. Furthermore, at the three locations in Augsburg, Wittenberg, and Hamm, approximately 84% of the total waste (mainly powder waste) is physically recycled and used for the production of concrete blocks or as filling material in mining – a total of 205 tons per year.

Transparency

Through various environmental labels and certifications, the PCI Group ensures maximum transparency, making it quick and easy to identify which products are low-emission. In addition to our own labels, we rely on certifications such as the EC1 PLUS, the Blue Angel, the European Product Declaration (EPD), and declarations from independent institutions.

Over 80% of THOMSIT products are already very low-emission and are classified with EC1 or EC1 PLUS labels according to GEV-EMICODE®. Additionally, we provide a clear overview of what sustainability means to PCI and the key areas and goals the company has set in our sustainability brochure. The PCI sustainability brochure complies with the 20 criteria of the recognized reporting standard of the German Sustainability Code (DNK).

At the PCI Group, we believe in transparency and openness. We are constantly looking for ways to improve our contribution to protecting the environment and society.
